About the Program
You want to make informed, sustainable choices when placing orders with us, but it’s not always as simple as it seems, is it? Our new Easy on the Planet programme was designed to help you reach your company’s sustainability objectives by consolidating your product orders and -categories and favouring eco-conscious products. To offset any residual emissions that you can’t reduce or mitigate further, Staples will plant trees on your behalf.
We will monitor your ordering behaviour, with rewards for improvements that reduce your business’ impact on the environment.
Greener purchasing
Working with one primary supplier across all categories is an easy way to go greener, but your Staples account representative will also help you minimise the number of small, inefficient orders you place. This cuts back on excess packaging and transport emissions and has the added benefit of reducing your administration costs. A customised report helps you to track the improvement of your green credentials.
Eco-conscious products
Your account manager will help you to identify the key products and services your business uses most, and find eco-conscious versions of those products: with over 12,000 Easy on the Planet™ products to choose from. The number of eco-conscious products you buy will be monitored each following year, and gains will be rewarded with trees planted via Staples’ carbon offset partner.
Off-setting residuals
To offset any residual emissions that you can’t reduce or mitigate further, Staples has teamed up with a credible carbon offset partner, Plant-for-the-Planet, to plant trees on your behalf, with each new tree taking 10 kg of CO2 out of the air, for each year of its life.
Staples is proud to be partnering with Plant-for-the-Planet, an organisation that has taken on the legacy of UNEP’s Billion Tree Campaign. Plant-for-the-Planet plant trees on behalf of Staples customers across the globe, particularly in areas where they will have the biggest environmental and social impact, thereby restoring fragile eco-systems and creating jobs for communities across the world.
At one such plantation, in Campeche, Mexico, Plant-for-the-Planet has worked with the local community and government to plant over 120,000 trees over 140 hectares of land. In an area badly impacted by deforestation, Plant-for-the-Planet reintroduced seven tree species, while simultaneously providing employment to the local community.

The Staples Easy on the Planet icon is used to identify a range of eco-conscious products that demonstrate reduced environmental impacts compared to other products in their category. Not only do these products meet our stringent criteria, but they also have respected third party certifications. Products that qualify must meet one or more of the following criteria:
Before a product is considered Easy on the Planet, the supplier must first agree to the Supplier Code of Conduct. Upon agreement with this Code, individual products are then reviewed against the appropriate criteria.
Our exclusive Sustainable Earth by Staples™ eco-conscious products are manufactured with the environment in mind. These eco-preferable products are made with renewable resources and/or recycled materials and are third-party certified to validate their environmental attributes. From the breakroom to the boardroom, there’s a product that can help you to reduce your impact on the environment – from remanufactured toner cartridges, sustainable office- and paper supplies and eco-preferable breakroom products – and as with all Staples brand products, you can rely on exceptional quality and value for your money.
How does EasyTree work?
Staples has marked a selection of eco-conscious products with the Easy Tree icon. When you purchase any of these EasyTree products, not only will you be buying green products, but Staples will plant trees on your behalf.
EasyTree products are a quick and easy way to identify eco-conscious products and plant trees - when you purchase one of our EasyTree products, part of the revenue is donated to Plant-for-the-Planet.
This reward is available to all our customers, so when you see the icon, you know that your purchase can make a difference.
How does EasyTree work with the Easy on the Planet programme?
We want to help you make better environmental procurement choices, which is why we have a range measurements and processes for our Easy on the Planet programme members.
EasyTree products are a simple way to make greener procurement choices, but Easy on the Planet also looks at your past purchasing behaviour and encourages you to make improvements.
