1. Set your hours
Your workplace is nicely varied, but your hours don’t have to be. Set a schedule to work within and stick to it. It’s easy to work late, or to start working into your per sonal time, when you’re in charge of your own work schedule.
Get yourself into a routine and stick to it Shower and get ready as you would going to a normal office Figure out when you work best, and schedule your key tasks at this time Remember to leave work behind at the end of your set day

2. Define your space
Wherever you like working, you’ll need to set up your workspace. This is particularly true if you work a lot from home. But even if you have a favourite café where you go for conference calls, try to make sure it’s set up correctly.
Set up your space with the right storage, desk, chair and screen to stay comfortable and healthy Check your power points, do you have enough for your charging needs all day, or do you need an extension cord? Also make sure your battery life is good, that you’re carrying the right chargers or have some mobile charge packs handy With way more workers having many more devices to connect than just a computer, make sure you have good Wi-Fi connectivity in the space you’re working in Have quiet spaces for thinking, and a place where you can easily talk during a conference call

3. Meet people
Working on the go means you can meet new people, colleagues and clients whenever you can fit them into your schedule. Networking and continuing to set up actual meetings is an important part of being an on the go worker.
Find out about, and join, networking groups near you Still set up regular meetings with colleagues and bosses Go to conferences, workshops, or talks in your particular field Try to stay and chat to people after events or talks

4. Inform work
You’re your own boss, but it’s also important to keep work informed on your whereabouts. Working on the go actually works both ways – you need to keep everyone up to date with what you’re doing, and where you’ll be.
Schedule in regular meetings or times you can go into the office for catch ups Technology is your friend. Use it to keep everyone in the loop about what you’re doing Set a weekly time for a conference call, and make sure everyone’s invited

5. Enjoy work/life balance
You believe that working on the go has improved your life - now you can work from anywhere. Time becomes more fluid when you can complete personal tasks during work, and work during other times. Having a good work/life balance is always good to remember.
Set proper break times and stick to them, it’s good for your health Be more flexible in your work time and you may find it gives you more productive hours per week, to increase your yearly revenue Working on the go means anything becomes your office for the morning-take advantage of extra time to complete tasks sooner Make sure you make time for the things you like doing, rather than working into your free time

6. Keep organised
There are many solutions to backing up files or documents, so it’s easy to have copies of everything you need at your fingertips. For home offices, it’s nice to know where everything is – with filing cabinets or tambour units. On the go, use digital storage solutions, especially for large creative files.
Print out hard copies of documents to file if it helps you stay on top of things Don’t risk losing your hard work - digital storage is the perfect mobile back up Having a set place for everything you need will help you to stay really productive when you work on the go

7. Stay focused
If you’re an on the go worker, you’ll be used to browsing industry news, or staying connected to colleagues via social media. Try to have set times where you use things like LinkedIn and Twitter, otherwise it can suck your time and keep you from sticking to a good work schedule.
Give yourself times to browse or email, for example first thing in the morning and lunch is a good time to catch up with your communications Try to stay focused on your tasks rather than reacting to everything that happens at that moment If something urgent comes in, remember to work it into your schedule, and let others know if it will affect a deadline

8. Use technology
You can often write technical expenses off on your business, so stay up to date with work-enhancing technology. An up-to-date smart phone, landline, and virtual meeting software can become your perfect on the go office.
Implement a working system to be able to complete both small and big tasks, this could be a shared planner or project management software Make conference calls easier by sharing your desktop and giving presentations online Wireless printing helps you stay productive working from a tablet or smart-phone A telephone headset is a good idea if you make many calls

9. Try out innovations
When you work on the go you can often be the one to put in place those things you need to be successful. Industry innovations and trends by their nature move fast: work to implement those you like either with your office, or within your own business. It’s great to be the innovative one in the work place and let your career reap the benefits.
Use forums or industry news pages to see what others in your field use innovations-wise Keep your vision for each project in mind, and find the best way for making that vision a reality Innovation comes in the form of new work ideas, practises, products or even software

10. Be secure when you BYOD
BYOD (bring your own device) has been one of the main consequences of working on the go. You will probably therefore buy your own, and so work with your own devices. This way of working means you can always have the most up-to-date technology you love, and comes with some important watch outs around device security.
Keep up-to-date with the latest security measures and software so you can keep your secure information and work technology protected Be prepared for companies you're working with to ask you to use secure networks, FTP servers or to install their virus software on your personal computers Back up important information regularly on your own secure home network, so that you have copies of everything you need should it be accidentally lost Install something that allows you to remotely wipe information from your laptop, phone or tablet should it become lost or stolen

11. Keep your private information private
Being outside of companies' information systems gives you much more freedom in your work practises. Information is now nearly always digital, updated and freely available to people like you - on demand. Keep some privacy concerns front of mind, for peace of mind when you're working on the go.
Use a privacy screen over your computer or tablet screen if it's important others don't see confidential information, for example if you work while you commute Have auto locking and passwords set if you will be away from your screen for a certain amount of time, and even consider a way of locking your computer or tablet to a desk or securely away overnight Be careful of sending confidential information, things like invoice or bank details, over public Wi-Fi as it's easy for it to become compromised Try to work in a quiet and private and space if you're working on really sensitive information. It will make the work easier if you're not worried who can see over your shoulder

12. Enjoy yourself
It’s great to work on the go - it’s flexible, it gives you more time as you can work in new places, and often puts you in charge of your own work schedule. Focus on the benefits of on the go working, and keep informed about everything available to you while you work, and you’ll definitely get the most out of it…
Less time commuting is great for your health and stress levels Home workers report lower BMIs, blood pressure, waist circumferences, and maintain a healthier weight As already detailed, there are many new options and opportunities for an on the go workforce like you It’s a great option for people who like to keep their work life more flexible.
