Technology changing organisations
Technology to change the way organisations manage their employees
In a recent interview with Computer Weekly, Costas Markides, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the London Business School, revealed that he believes technology solutions will soon change the way organisations manage their employees, and ultimately run their business. He believes that we are now using technology like brains, rather than machines, to run our businesses and are moving from a ‘rules-based world to a purpose-based world’. Markides emphasised that technology should be embraced so that employers can focus on developing a sense of corporate purpose for their employees.
Some companies may have shied away from relying too heavily on technology or allowing their employees to go mobile with their work, in part because of security risks, and in part due to the fact that hesitant employers could never know whether staff members were spending their time working on company projects or socialising with peers. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that technology must be accepted in order for companies to compete in their industry, and that any organisations that are still trying to control and restrict how their employees use technology need only work on ensuring their employees are devoted to the company.
Although the use of technology within a company does come with some risks, such as that of loss of data, the benefits are worth it. In his interview, Markides even goes as far as to suggest that technology and the internet have physically changed the way our brains work, reducing our attention span, and that without it, companies will struggle to be successful.
Thankfully Staples Advantage provides everything you need to update your organisation, offering a range of technologies to help your staff go mobile, or to just simplify everyday processes in the workplace.
